A small shrub which can reach 30 cm in height and 60 cm in diameter. Today, this plant is commonly used in cooking, particularly salads and fish dishes, due to its delicate lemon flavour. It also has medicinal applications, being used for respiratory and digestive problems. Infusions should be made using the fresh, green leaves. It is resistant to high temperatures and does not tolerate flooding. When in flower, it attracts pollinating insects. Growers should cut the plant before it flowers.
